Nelda Maurine Spendlove Jensen
Nelda Maurine Spendlove Jensen 1919 ~ 2008 Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, Nelda Maurine Spendlove Jensen, 88, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 3, 2008 in Bountiful, Utah, of causes incident to age. She was born December 24, 1919 in Magna, Utah, to John Alfred Spendlove and Maude Mae Griffith Spendlove. She married Roland Aaron Jensen on May 6, 1939; their marriage was sealed two years later in the Salt Lake Temple. Nelda and Roland shared 62 wonderful years of marriage together. She was a faithful member of the LDS Church holding many positions, including Relief Society President. At the age of 42 she went back to school and received her nursing degree. She worked as head night nurse of the orthopedic floor at DePaul Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri for five years. She was an example of strength and generosity. She lovingly cared for her dear husband for many years until his death in January 2001. She was a great quilter and quilted up to the end. She volunteered at the Taylorsville Senior Center and loved every minute, especially Bingo day where she secretly provided many of the prizes. She was a loving mother to five daughters. Rest well, dear Mother, 'til we meet again. She is survived by her five daughters: Deanna (Morris) Parker, Newport Beach, CA; Bonnie Jean (Dennis) Dalebout, Costa Mesa, CA; Sharry (Jim) Freudenburg, Longmont, CO; Susan (Michael) Schilling, Arvada, CO; Judith (Rick) Barlow, Farmington, UT; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; brother, Clifton; sister, Marjorie. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Vaughn and Gene; sister, Faye; and great-granddaughter, Elizabeth. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 9th, at 11:00 a.m., at the Taylorsville 10th Ward, 1950 West 4950 South in Salt Lake City. A viewing will be held on Monday, 6 - 8 p.m., at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road in Salt Lake City, and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Interment will follow services at Valley View Memorial Park, 4335 West 4100 South. Deep gratitude to the Taylorsville 10th Ward for their willing service to Mom and also to Legacy House of Bountiful and Alpine Home Care/ Hospice for the loving and dignified manner in which they cared for her.
